“The only thing separating you from a job at any agency in the world is a great portfolio,” and Breaking In is the book that’s going to help you put together the right portfolio to be hired.
Written by William Burks Spencer, who used to work at W+K London, Breaking In is a collection of interviews with some of the most renowned advertising professionals, who answer questions about what they are looking for in a portfolio, what kind of work should be in it and how should it be presented.
For his book, Spencer interviewed Dan Wieden (of course) and many other W+K people, including our own V Sunil and Akash Das.
And here is a stop-motion video documenting the work in progress:
Well done, Daku.
Our creatives like art – so much that sometimes they end up making it. This, for instance, is “Point A is Point B is Point A”, an installation Hanif and Rizwan have created in collaboration with architect Saurabh Dakshini for The Park, Hyderabad.
The work makes a statement on The Park’s environmental efforts. In particular, the installation alludes to the hotel’s 100% waste-water management system. Made out of steel pipes, the tree symbolizes the intricate water management system prevalent in the hotel and the size of the sculpture references the scale of the pipe systems employed in a hotel – something guests usually neither see nor think about.
The installation was displayed from April to July 2010 at Hyderabad Airport and is now permanently at The Park, Hyderabad.
Typodarium is a tear-off calendar showcasing 365 different fonts. You can discover a new font everyday, learn the background behind its creation and several other interesting details. Foundries and designers from all over the world were asked to contribute with their favorite fonts. Two fonts created by our resident type geek, Hanif, were selected to appear in this calendar.
